What part of a atom changes disappears while moving? what is this effect called?

there was a video on discovery channel a long time ago that showed atom movement under a electron microscope. it was black and white and showed parts of the atom spinning and other parts in orbit but while in orbit would disappear and reappear randomly. I need to know what this effect is called so I can find another video of it.
